How We Work

The same shape across every engagement.

Every Saltmark engagement follows the same basic shape, regardless of which one it is. An initial call — no charge, about twenty minutes — to confirm that the engagement fits the situation. A short written brief setting out the scope, what will be produced, and the fee. The consulting sessions themselves. A written deliverable at the end.

This predictability is part of the value. An owner who knows exactly what they are committing to — in terms of time, scope, and cost — can plan around it. There are no open-ended phases, no scope creep, and no ambiguity about when the work is done.

Commercial and ownership matters — equity splits, employment contracts, legal disputes — are outside our scope in every engagement. Where those arise, we refer clearly to appropriate professional advisers.


Engagement 01

Owner-Manager Strategy Conversation

A single half-day conversation with the owner about the people side of the next twelve months. We arrive with a small set of questions, listen carefully, and finish with a short written note that summarises what we heard and where the owner has decided to put their attention.

Useful when an owner senses they have been putting off thinking about their team but cannot find the morning for it. The session creates the morning.

What Is Included

  • Initial confirming call (no charge)
  • Preparation questions sent in advance
  • Half-day facilitated conversation (up to four hours)
  • Written summary note delivered within three working days
  • Confidentiality agreement

How It Runs

  1. 1.Initial call — confirm fit, answer questions about the process
  2. 2.Pre-session questions sent — owner reflects at their own pace beforehand
  3. 3.Half-day session — structured conversation, held at Saltmark's office or the owner's
  4. 4.Written note — concise summary of discussion and owner's stated priorities, delivered by email

Departing Co-Founder Conversation Support

A careful consulting engagement for situations where a co-founder is leaving the business and the remaining people need help with the conversations that surround that change — what to say to the team, how to handle the first few weeks, what to keep private.

Operational and communicational support only. Commercial and ownership matters — the equity side, the legal documentation — are referred elsewhere. We focus on the human part: who says what, when, and how.

  • Up to three consulting sessions across the transition period
  • Messaging guidance: what to tell the team, and when
  • Written notes from each session
  • Referrals to legal and financial advisers where needed
  • Confidentiality agreement

How It Runs

  2. 2.First session — map the conversations needed and who needs to have them
  3. 3.Second session — review how the first weeks went, address what came up
  4. 4.Optional third session — close out any remaining conversational threads

Engagement 03

Long-Service Conversation Series

A short consulting block for business owners who employ long-serving people — twelve, fifteen, twenty years — and want to use a particular anniversary year as a moment for thoughtful conversations about the next chapter.

We help the owner prepare a sequence of three conversations across the year, with a written prompt sheet for each. The conversations are held by the owner. We prepare them.

What Is Included

  • Initial confirming call (no charge)
  • Briefing session with the owner on the employee's history and situation
  • Three written prompt sheets — one per conversation across the year
  • A brief debrief call after each conversation (at the owner's request)
  • Confidentiality agreement

How It Runs

  1. 1.Initial call — confirm the situation and the anniversary context
  2. 2.Briefing session — gather the background needed to write the prompt sheets
  3. 3.Prompt sheet one delivered — for the opening conversation of the year
  4. 4.Prompt sheets two and three — timed across the remainder of the year

Across All Engagements

The standards that apply to every piece of work.

Confidentiality

A written confidentiality agreement is signed before the first session of every engagement. What is shared with us remains with us.

Written Outputs

Every engagement produces a written document. Notes are delivered in plain language — no jargon — and are readable in under fifteen minutes.

Scope Discipline

The scope of each engagement is fixed and does not expand without a separate conversation and agreement. We do not charge for time beyond what is contracted.

Timely Delivery

Written notes and prompt sheets are delivered within the agreed timeframe. Session scheduling is confirmed at least five working days in advance.

Referral When Needed

When a situation requires legal, financial, or licensed professional involvement, we say so and refer to appropriate advisers. We do not work outside our scope.

Data Handling

Personal information shared during engagements is handled in line with our privacy policy and Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
